Irina VII a été dessiné par Alfred Mylne pour le major J.G. Allan, d'Helensburgh, et construit à Fairlie sous le nom de Sonas (bonheur en gaëlique).
C'est le plan Alfred Mylne N° 366 et le plan chantier N° 811 de William Fife & Son. En 1947, James C. Guthrie, le rachète et fait refaire et réduire la voilure. Gréé en Sloop bermudien, Sonas est ensuite vendu en 1952 au Norvégien George Von Erpecom, membre du yacht-club de Bergen, qui le rebaptise Irina VII. Précisons que Georg Von Erpecom fut également le propriétaire des six précédents Irina ! Seul le huitième devait lui échapper construit pour Gustav Lunde.
Dans les années 60, Irina VII est confié à Finn Engelsen. Irina VII, sert ensuite à la formation de yachtmen dans le Devon.
En 1985, de nouveaux propriétaires anglais entreprennent d'importants travaux d'entretien. Racheté en 2002 par des français, il est rénové au chantier naval Amebois à Toulouse. Irina VII a retrouvé son gréement d'origine (côtre Marconi), et les intérieurs conformes aux plans de 1934.
Depuis 2003, Irina VII participe régulièrement aux régates de la Méditerranée.
