Olin Stephens(1908-2008) a été probablement un des plus extraordinaires architectes du siècle dernier. Monsieur « Coupe de l'America » était un quasi autodictate.
Après un bref séjour au MIT et une jaunisse, il choisit d'apprendre le métier sur le tas, d'abord chez Gielow puis chez Rhodes pour être ensuite associé par son père à Drake Sparkman un « broker » (agent en bateaux d'occasion).
C'était en 1928. Dorade, son premier succès sera une commande de son père. Stephens dessinera six navires (tous vainqueurs) pour la Coupe, et plus de 2200 au total. Crazy Life est un bateau tardi, très rapide.
